Thank you for enrolling in our Sims Skills Made Easy Course Technology
Welcome to Our Sims Skills Procedural Simulation to gain a deeper knowledge of clinical skills and procedures in an immersive learning environment. The course descriptions are outlined with weekly activities. The posttest and simulation sections are geared to help you hone in your clinical skills.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
This course focuses on preparing nurse practitioners and physician assistant students to learn skills and procedures performed by Advanced Practitioners in primary and urgent care settings.
Upon completion of the course, students will be well prepared and ready to practice in their clinical setting using updated evidence-based guidelines to practice safely and competently. This course is 30% didactic and 70% simulation.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will involve the application of clinical skills and procedural principles for providing care to patients. Course fee required.
To be successful in this course, students will be required to complete all assigned materials, which include the didactic, virtual simulation and documentation sections.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Sims Skills Made Easy simulation-based platform introduces students to practical skills in a 3D, interactive, online experience. The learning platform provides a high-quality simulation environment with clinical skills performed by Advanced Practice Providers.
The clinical simulation is divided into four sections:
Know The Procedure: This section provides didactic knowledge and video presentations necessary to immerse the learner in the identified clinical skills to establish a basic exploratory knowledge.
The Case Scenario and Patient Medical Information: This section provides an interactive case history to help students understand the patient’s medical history and a step-by-step medical diagnosis process leading up to the clinical skills presented.
Perform The Procedure: This section provides students with the 3-D interactive tools to perform the skills in a pedagogically scaffolded learning environment. It utilizes a real-life clinical case scenario, digital patients and a clinical environment to mimic cases frequently encountered in clinical practice. The learner will learn concepts and perform hands-on skills in an immersive clinical environment. The students will have the opportunity to practice each step of the procedure multiple tines until mastery is attained.
Test Your Skills: This section is built to put the students’ knowledge to the test in a 3-D environment based on the know the procedure and perform the procedure sections. In this section, students will be required to complete eleven activities which will be graded. There will be a maximum of three attempts for each of the test activities, and the highest score will be recorded for each test activity. A final grade of 80% is required to pass the test.
The Test Your Skills section ensures learners achieve complete mastery of each skill learned. The feedback and analytics will be made available to the instructor with personalized feedback to enable learners to review and improve performance effectively.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Building upon skills and procedures, this course focuses on knowledge and clinical skills required for advanced practice nursing. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Review the skills and procedural didactic concepts including the indications, contraindications, and clinical considerations of designated skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to obtain and document a comprehensive health history for individuals across the lifespan.
- Perform a risk assessment of the patient including the assessment of lifestyle and other risk factors.
- Assess clinical skills performed in health care settings of individuals across the lifespan.
- Perform and document complete skills and procedures of individuals across the lifespan utilizing the full extent of the student’s education and training.
- Perform basic assessments and develop the knowledge data for patient referral to a higher level of care.
- Relate assessment findings to underlying pathophysiology.
- Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses.
- Develop an effective and appropriate plan of care for the patient that is research-based (evidence-based practice) and takes into consideration life circumstances, cultural, ethnic, and developmental variations.
- Utilize the skills of advanced nursing assessment and an understanding of advanced practice nursing roles and evidence-based data collection to provide effective continuity of care among collaborating healthcare providers.
